Looking back in 2018

2018 has been a year of change and evolution. After a quarter-century of existence, the Regional Development Agency changed its name to Moravian-Silesian Investment and Development (MSID). The new name reflects our current focus – identifying opportunities for investment and development within the Moravian-Silesian Region and supporting development projects.

During 2018 MSID has continued to support investment opportunities throughout the Region, organizing or participating in a range of events as part of this core mission. Some events are held on a regular basis, while others are one-off seminars or meetings focusing on questions of current relevance. The events held during 2018 covered numerous topical issues and were targeted at a wide range of participants. Among the most prominent events of the year were a conference for mayors, the annual Lady Business competition (now in its fourth year), and a brownfield trip for potential investors. The annual Invest More conference – this year focusing on digitalization and automation – proved very popular. We also participated in several international events – including the Brno Engineering Fair (in a joint presentation with selected innovative companies from the Region), URBIS SMART CITY FAIR and the prestigious investment event EXPO REAL Munich, where we presented the Moravian-Silesian Region as a great place to live and do business.

During 2018 we also continued to organize meetings of businesses with representatives of the Moravian-Silesian Region. These regular meetings – held at various locations throughout the Region – help to improve communication between businesses and local government. They enable the Region to present its visions and strategic projects, and they are also a valuable opportunity for Regional representatives to hear direct feedback, opinions and suggestions from the local business community.

As part of our business aftercare programme we visited a range of companies to present Regional and national tools and opportunities for business support – including schemes to support training and education, a campaign to boost the prestige of manual trades, and a subsidy scheme for brownfield regeneration.

This year we continued to develop our ongoing cooperation with various chambers of commerce, embassies and Czech branches of foreign investors – and we also became a member of the Association for Foreign Investment (AFI). These partnerships enable us to present the Region’s investment environment and opportunities to potential foreign investors – for whom we can prepare selected investment locations to meet their specific individual requirements. These activities are coordinated via our investment web portal, which offers detailed information on all industrial zones, development areas, brownfields, development projects and office space across the entire Moravian-Silesian Region.

Complete details of all our activities and planned events can be found on our website or our Facebook profile.
