New logistics centre is being built in Ostrava Hrušov

7. 10. 2021

Ostrava Hrušov is poised to become the logistics centre of Ostrava. Another logistics centre, this time managed by GLP, is being built near the completion of a logistics centre by the developer Contera.

GLP Park Ostrava Hrušov, as the official name of the new complex is, is due to be completed in the first quarter of next year and should employ up to 1,000 people. "The total investment in the construction of the project will amount to around EUR 40-45 million (approximately CZK 1 billion-1.15 billion), the variance is due to the rapid increase in prices of construction materials and works. Around 1,000 people could find work in the new logistics park," said GLP spokesman Jan Hlaváč.

The investor was facing a costly decontamination of the whole area before the construction started, as the site was previously occupied by chemical plants that produced and processed nitric acid, sulphuric acid, hydrochloric acid, formic acid, sodium sulphate, barium chloride and other chemicals until 1996. When completed, the site will offer up to 92,000 m2 of warehouse space of the highest standard.

The Mayor of Silesian Ostrava, Richard Vereš, also believes in the positive impact on the development of Hrušov, stating "We believe that the multi-purpose logistics and production complex will create new jobs and thus contribute to the modernisation of the city district and the region. Moreover, the complex is easily accessible, including by public transport. Ostrava's main railway station is located approximately two kilometres from the site."
