Metallurgy

The first ironworks in the Moravian-Silesian Region were established at the beginning of the 19th century. After the Velvet Revolution of 1989 the Region´s metallurgical industry managed to successfullly transform itself and adapt to the market economy. Currently the Region is know for its high-quality, eco-friendly metal product which are exported to customers all overt the world.

IMPORTANT COMPANIES

AL INVEST Břidličná, a.s.

The company is a major European producer (the largest in the Czech Republic) of metal packaging materials and rolled aluminium products. It employs over 800 people in the Bruntál area. The history of non-ferrous metal production in Břidličná dates back to 1930. In 2018, AL INVEST won an award from the Union for the Development of the Moravian-Silesian Region, recognizing the company’s contribution to regional development (in the “large companies” category). Among the company’s best-known products is its packaging for a popular Czech brand of butter, which has won the “Packaging of the Year” award on several occasions.

Bekaert Petrovice s.r.o.

Bekaert is the world’s number one manufacturer of products made from steel wire and fibres, including surface-treated products. The company is the technological leader in its field, and it has been operating in the Moravian-Silesian Region (Petrovice u Karviné) since 1998. It has a broad-based portfolio ranging from Dramix steel fibres for industrial floors, wired concrete, and 5D / 4D fibres for concrete reinforcement. The company also has a facility in Bohumín.

BONATRANS GROUP a.s.

BONATRANS is Europe’s largest producer of railway wheelsets, and it supplies customers in over 80 countries all over the world. Thanks to its long experience of developing and producing wheelsets and components for various types of use and various technical parameters, the company is able to supply its customers with custom-made products optimized for a specific use. Each year BONATRANS market-launches around 50 new products. The company’s development teams specialize in developing noise reduction solutions for rail vehicles. Its products in this area include special rubber-damped wheels (developed in-house) for public transport vehicles, as well as various versions of its own damping systems tailor-made to meet individual customer requirements.

Liberty Ostrava a.s.

Liberty Ostrava is the largest metallurgical complex in the Czech Republic. The company invests large sums in research and development in order to boost its competitiveness by making products with high added value and improving energy efficiency. Thanks to a groundbreaking programme of eco-improvements completed in 2015, the company now produces iron and steel products with the minimum possible environmental impact.

TŘINECKÉ ŽELEZÁRNY, a. s.

Třinecké železárny is the most important Czech metallurgical company with Czech capital participation, and it is currently the largest domestic producer of steel. Along with Moravia Steel and dozens of subsidiaries, it is one of the most important industrial groups in Central Europe. Iron production in Třinec has a tradition dating back to 1839.

Main products: rolled products – rolled wire, section steel, drawn steel, rails, seamless tubes, semi-finished products, etc.
